on your credit card if made in advance of the actual date/time of the

Bad weather is the call of the Captain and up to their discretion. In the event
that weather does require a charter to be cancelled a refund will be issued
where applicable for any unused portion of the charter.
Questions and Answers:
Seasickness – what to do? Fist consider fishing
in the flats or back country – not offshore. Still want to venture
offshore – please
take motion sickness meds no less than an hour prior to your trip.
Seasickness is a non-qualified cancellation refund.
Alcohol –
can we bring alcohol on the charter? This is the Keys and you are here
to enjoy yourself. We ask that you govern yourself and know your limits
and make certain that you stay hydrated with water as well as any beer
or cocktails. The final decision lies with your Captain.
Sun exposure and clothing – this
is the Tropics and the sun is very hot and in the summer months the humidity
adds to
the mix. Sunscreen
is a must, hats with protective brims/bills, and eyewear, are strongly
recommended. Polarized glasses not only help your eyes – they cut
the glare and help you read the water and sight the fish on the flats.
Offshore your tired eyes will thank you at the end of the trip for those “shades” – all
the better to see your catch!
Flats fishing --- what’s the scoop? You do not
have to be an expert “fly fisherman” to fish the flats in
the Keys. Our Captains who offer fly fishing charters will be happy to
offer guidance and some instructions. We do recommend that flats fishing
be done with one or two anglers and the Captain due to the size and weight
of the flats boats and the shallow waters you are fishing in. The flats
are a beautiful part of the Keys ecosystem and a wonderful fishing experience
that should not be missed!
Gear – what do I need to bring? Nothing specifically for fishing;
unless, you simply cannot fish without that “lucky rod/reel”.
Our Captains offer the top of the line in gear for spin and fly fishing.
Why pack one more thing for the airline to loose?
We caught ‘um up – now what? Over the years flats species
have more or less been catch and release --- these being Tarpon, Bonefish,
and Permit. We don’t eat these species in this part of the world.
Let your Captain know ahead of time and he will stop on the charter and
put you on Snappers or other wonderfully edible catch for dinner. Just
in case you catch a trophy we can put you in touch with a company that
does replica mounts --- again let your Captain know in advance you are “Trophy
Hunting”.
Flats and Back Country Fishing generally consists of one or two anglers
with a Captain fishing in a small 16-18’ Flats Boat. Done in the
bay and islands to the north and west of the main island chain. Generally
fishing for targeted species such as Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit depending
on the season and water conditions.
Offshore Trolling or Live Bait Fishing this
is a different type of fishing which is done from what is called a “Light
Tackle Boat” center
consol 27’ to 34’. You still troll and/or drift live bait
like you do on larger sport fishing boats. The difference is you will
be fishing with 20 to 30 lb test line for a large variety of sport fish
(Mahi Mahi (Dolphin) cobia, sailfish, tuna etc..) You will not be in
a “Fighting
Chair”. This type of sport
fishing is done with a stand-up rod and test your stamina and is more
exciting than fighting these species from a fighting chair.
Reef and
Wreck Fishing is done on larger boats carrying as many anglers as the
Captain allows, generally 2-4 anglers.
Offshore is done in the Atlantic to the south of the main island chain.
The Reef lies three and one half nautical miles offshore to the south
in about 30’ of water. The reef just south of Big Pine is noted
to be one of the “BEST” yellow tail snapper areas in the
total keys chain. Between the dock and the reef are many coral heads
and sand flats which offer excellent snapper fishing. The reef has excellent
potential depending on the water and weather conditions. Wreck fishing
is generally done in the bay and out into the Gulf of Mexico. There are
some wrecks in the Atlantic which offer a great habitat to species to
congregate.
Sport
Fishing from a 35’ Sport Fish
fishing from this type vessel is the ultimate adventure of a life time.
We have a 38’ Rampage “X-Ray Mania”
in our fleet. This boat has an air conditioned salon, restroom, and
large fighting cockpit. You will be trolling and/or live baiting for
(Mahi Mahi (Dolphin) Cobia, Sailfish, Tuna Marlin etc..) This boat has
the capabilities of taking up to 6 anglers. It also is an excellent ride
and can be fished in heavier seas with less motion.
For that ultimate fish trip in our paradise this is the charter for you.
Sword Fishing – this
type of fishing is done 27 Nautical miles south west of Big Pine Key.
Due to the price of fuel
this is the most expensive
part of this charter. All of the Reef Light Charter Fleet for sword fishing
are equipped with radar (a necessity when running at night) and all of
the necessary safety equipment required to sail at night. This is a very
exciting adventure if you are into deep sea; fishing you have to sword
fish once in your lifetime. Sword fishing is done by drifting large squid
and live bait over the cracks in “Woods Wall” with large
offshore equipment and 80 to 100lb test line in 1800 to 2000 feet of
water. This charter requires calm seas and is best booked during spring
and summer months. Although it is a year round fishery a sword fish charter
can be book in less than 24 hours after we have a weather forecast.
