The sailfish are here! The sailfish are here!
With cooler water temperatures and ballyhoo balling up on the
edge of the reef and northeast winds, the sailfish are here in
numbers. Using live ballyhoo for bait and drifting on the edge
and just out past, there have been many of these beautiful
billfish caught and released. Dolphin and Wahoo are in the mix
as well, using the same technique. You can catch your ballyhoo
by chumming and using a hair hook, or by throwing your cast net
once you have them chummed up to the back of the boat.
On the reef the yellowtail, mutton, and mangrove bite in depths
from 50-80 ft. is still hot. Hang two chum bags and keep the
chum flowing strong. If the fish are small, move out a little
deeper. For bait you want silversides and either chunked or
filleted ballyhoo. For all your fishing needs and questions,
please be sure to stop by and see us. We have a well informed
staff that is happy to help you get out and catch the big ones!

FISHING REPORT – WEEK OF 10/25/2010
ON THE REEF - The fishing for yellowtail snapper remains consistent,
with the larger flags being taken on the deeper side of the reef
from 70 to 90 feet. There are also lots and lots of keeper-size fish
in the 35 to 50 foot depths.
OFFSHORE- There have been reports of dolphin scattered from in
depths from 250 feet and beyond with the gulf stream one to two
miles out. Not a lot of big fish have been boated, but fish in the
teens and a nice gaffer occasionally. Windy conditions have made it
difficult to get out at times. The sailfish catch has been extremely
good by live baiting in depths from 100 to 200 feet. There has also
been an occasional wahoo or kingfish caught, so it might be a good
time to add some wire to your leader.
